Coup de Foudre

Meet Wilbur Norman

I was born in the UK. I studied anthropology in the U.S and London, doing fieldwork in East Africa. Around 1983 I left the field and opened a bookshop specializing in rarities in medicine; the hard, human and exact sciences; mountaineering, and wine. When traveling in the U.S. and Europe, looking for rare books, I began to collect tribal art that appealed to me for my own collections, and to sell, as a way to support my travel ‘habit’.

I specialize in antique Buddhist ritual and decorative objects; Asian jewelry and textiles; and African ritual objects that have been used in their original tribal setting. My inventory comes from (mostly) Tibet, Mongolia, Southeast Asia, and Central Africa. I only sell older, authentic tribal/ethnographic merchandise, not new material. I also buy and sell antique beads from the Himalayas, northern India and Southeast Asia. The collecting ‘bug’ is one not easily shaken! And, if one wants to collect with a limited budget, buying and selling is one way to do it. The dealer life also allows for great travel experiences. Seeing and touching great things that have gone through countless anonymous hands is an incomparable thrill!

Rusty Glicksman and Earth-Door Sky-Door

Rusty Glicksman was born in Livingston, NJ. He graduated from George Washington University in Washington, DC. After receiving a Master’s Degree from McGill University he assumed a teaching position there for several years, until accepting a position at Brandeis University, ultimately settling outside Boston. An intrepid traveler, in the 1970s he traveled through Europe to Central Asia, visited the Dalai Lama, and entered Iran just as the revolution began. He built a jewelry business, Earth-Door Sky-Door, that started with jewlery designed by his beloved wife Rita.
Sadly, we have lost a truly free spirit. Rusty Glicksman passed away on September 7, 2021. His passing is a great loss to the ever-shrinking free spirit import community, among many others. For those of us who so enjoyed perusing and purchasing jewelry from Earth-Door Sky-Door, there is a ray of light. Rusty's collection will remain accessible in the Traveler’s Market under the stewardship of his dear friend Wilbur Norman of Coup de Foudre, LLC, also located in the Traveler's Market in Santa Fe, NM.
